BOOM model

Structure and discipline.
Autonomy and trust.

BOOM (Business Organizational Operating Model) is an organizational operating model for small and medium-sized companies that want a clear strategy, defined responsibilities and a team that takes initiative.

What makes up the BOOM model

Four parts every company must keep aligned.

For a company to operate successfully, it needs to align four basic parts:

  • A clear strategy
  • An effective organization
  • Quality communication
  • And a good reward system

BOOM successfully builds and connects these four components. Wherever a company is in its development, the BOOM methodology lets it determine where it stands and what to do to move forward.

Four pillars of the BOOM model

Strategy, organization, communication and money.

BOOM successfully builds and connects these four components. The methodology lets a company determine where it stands in its development and what to do to move forward.

01 Strategy

A clear strategy

The brain of the organization

Sets the strategy and goals. Defines a traffic-light system of key business indicators.

  • Written purpose and vision
  • Winning aspiration
  • Ideal customer — profile
  • Differentiation from competitors
  • Hedgehog focus and consistency
→ A direction everyone understands
02 Organization

An effective organization

The body of the organization

Defines the framework of authority and responsibility. Sets or redefines the organizational structure.

  • Right people in the right places
  • Clear roles and responsibilities
  • Evaluation and development system
  • Weekly operational traffic-light
  • Broken windows theory
→ Everyone knows their role
03 Communication

Quality communication

The bloodstream of the organization

Introduces structured, short meetings. Defines shared values, rights and rules.

  • Meeting architecture
  • Quarterly 1-on-1 feedback
  • Concrete SBI feedback
  • Living company values
  • Co-creation and team involvement
→ Information flows faster
04 Money

A good reward system

The water of the organization

A transparent reward system tied to the results and contribution of each individual.

  • Transparent bonus scheme
  • Quarterly bonus payout rhythm
  • Mini-games for team motivation
  • Open book management
  • Lead and lag indicators
→ Motivation through fairness
Implementation

Four principles that make up implementation.

Implementing the BOOM business model involves no homework, bureaucracy or theory. Everything happens through workshops — with discipline, transparency and participation of the whole organization.

01.

Co-creation

Implementation runs through a group process in which 6 to 16 participants take part in workshops. In small companies it usually includes all employees, while in medium and large companies a diverse group of managers and employees from different departments takes part.

02.

Employee involvement

Throughout the process all company employees are involved, so everyone understands your new business operating model — not just management.

03.

Simple application

Everything you need to do happens in the workshop. No homework, no bureaucracy. You can focus on day-to-day operations, and the model you develop together will not shape what you do, but how you do it.

04.

Discipline and transparency

This process requires everyone, including senior management, to be disciplined and transparent. Without these two aspects you will not succeed in implementation nor become an excellent company.
